A note from Jake Solomon, Founder of Solomon&Wu ltd
In 2018 I conducted a review of our approach to manufacturing from a sustainability perspective. I looked at the impact of our entire supply chain and output and concluded that I could no longer justify the environmental impact of the production of resin panels.
This meant a pivot for the company to sustainable alternatives. The result was our decision to only produce Foresso, our timber terrazzo product that uses waste wood from the joinery industry and waste cementitious aggregate from the foundry industry. This results in a product which is made from 84% recycled materials with very low levels of VOCs. We are currently working with Imperial College London sustainable materials department to create a binder that will eliminate all VOCs from our manufacturing process. We have now taken control of our entire supply chain and are moving to a purpose built facility to grow our business.
I would like to thank all of the clients of Solomon&Wu for the past 10 years, it has been a journey of discovery that has led me to a product that is fit for the future. I hope to continue to work together and consider myself lucky to have worked with such talented designers.
